New Year Message Although the turn of the year may seem like a dim and distant, maybe even hazy memory for. It seems that now is good time to pass on my and Treeton Baptist Churches best wishes for this year to come. Obviously the major distraction in everyone lives has been the weather, but I am encouraged by our community that when the weather was at its worst we got together to help one another, this was evident in many ways like the group of people who tried to help the motorist who became stuck on the Station Road during the snow, but also how people have been checking on their elderly neighbours and relatives. This is what a community is all about. For our part in the church, we started the New Year on the 3rd Jan with a special service during which 3 people took part in a ‘believer’s baptism’. The 3 individuals, Gael & Tony Hawley and Mitchell Nuttall, all wanted to express something of the importance to them of their faith and their relationship with Jesus. It was great day and a good celebration for the friends and family and the church as a whole.
As we look forward to the year to come we are looking forward to weddings, people renewing wedding vows and baby dedications, all of which are opportunities to celebrate and make a special occasion. The church is planning a number of special events throughout the year, usual events like a summer Garden Party, the Bonfire Party on November 5th and,of course, the Christingle Service on 24th December. But there will be other things that are slightly less normal like the Men’s Curry Night on Friday February 5th, we have a special guest, Brian Steele, who is coming to talk about his life during the 'troubles' in Northern Ireland and what a difference meeting with Jesus has made to him. During the year to come I hope and pray that you have many chances to join us and discover that we a group within this community who have a deeply held believe that our purpose is to serve our God and to serve our community. One of the services we want to offer is an opportunity for you to anonymously ask us to pray about the situations in your life that are causing you concern. Simply write a short note describing the problem as you see it, without giving any information that could identify you and post it into the post box on the wall at the front of the church. We will take these requests and we will offer prayers to God for you, your families and whatever the situation that is currently making your life a struggle. I wish all those in this community a peaceful and blessed 2010 and please never forget that we are here to serve God and serve this village. Rev Peter Spence |
